Wales’ cycling moment gathers pace as RideCymru 2027 entries open

Experience Tour de France terrain as RideCymru returns in 2027 for another epic 250-mile challenge.

200 riders took on RideCymru this September, tackling over 250 miles through the heart of Wales from north to south. Starting in Llandudno riders crossed dramatic mountain roads in Eryri national park, tackled iconic climbs in the Brecon Beacons and pedaled through picturesque towns before finishing in Cardiff.

Now, with entries open for 2027, the three-day endurance challenge is entering an exciting new chapter against the backdrop of one of the biggest moments in British cycling history, as the Tour de France Grand Depart comes to Wales. Taking place from 10-12th September 2027, RideCymru will continue to showcase Wales as a world-class cycling destination, offering riders a fully supported adventure through some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes, with training support, food, accommodation, medical and mechanical assistance all included.

Created by Threshold Sports, RideCymru has grown rapidly since its 50rider Pioneer Ride in 2025, growing by 300% to welcome 200 riders in 2026. With demand continuing to build, the 2027 event will increase capacity by a further 10%, marking another significant step in the event’s growth.

The 2027 event comes at a landmark time for cycling in Wales. On Sunday 4th July 2027, Stage 3 of the Tour de France will take place entirely in Wales, travelling 223km from Welshpool to Cardiff as part of the Grand Départ, marking the first time the world’s most famous cycling race will stage a full route through Wales.

RideCymru is already playing a role in building towards that moment, following the announcement of a new three-year Welsh Government investment in the event. The partnership aims to grow cycling tourism, increase participation and deliver lasting economic benefits for communities and businesses across Wales, while helping establish the country as a leading destination for cycling and outdoor adventure.

Road cycling already contributes more than £70 million in overnight visitor spend to the Welsh economy each year, with more than 200,000 overnight road cycling trips to Wales annually.

Nick Tuppen, CEO of Threshold Sports, said: “RideCymru was created to celebrate everything that makes cycling in Wales so special, and seeing more than 200 riders complete this year’s challenge has been an incredible milestone for the event. 2027 feels like a particularly exciting moment to be bringing RideCymru back. With the Tour de France coming to Wales for the first time, there has never been a more significant year for cycling here. We’re proud to be working alongside the Welsh Government to help showcase Wales to riders from across the UK and beyond, and we can’t wait to welcome the next group of riders to the wild heart of Wales.”

RideCymru 2027 will once again combine a demanding endurance challenge with a fully supported experience designed to make the adventure achievable for riders from a range of backgrounds. Riders can choose between the standard package, which includes basecamp accommodation, and a Plus Package with hotel accommodation, while charity and corporate entry options are also available.

Entry for RideCymru starts from £715 for the Standard Package, or £1,650 for the Plus Package (single occupancy). Riders can also secure their place for as little as £300 by committing to raise a minimum of £1,500 for one of RideCymru’s charity partners. In return, your chosen charity will part-fund your entry and provide fundraising support in the lead-up to the ride.

With the Tour de France set to bring the world’s cycling spotlight to Wales just two months before RideCymru 2027, riders will have the chance to follow in the tyre tracks of the world’s best cyclists and experience Wales’ spectacular roads, climbs and landscapes for themselves, making it an unmissable year to take on the RideCymru challenge.
